摘 要

《远大前程》是英国作家查尔斯·狄更斯晚年写成的长篇小说。小说讲述了主人公皮普因童年时好心搭救了一名逃犯，逃犯在国外发迹后，为报恩，资助皮普去伦敦接受上等教育，最后逃犯被捕，遗产充公，皮普的“远大前程”破灭的故事。皮普的性格是既单纯善良、慷慨正直，又不甘平凡、好学上进的；对待渴望的爱情，皮普执着追求； 但是皮普的身上也有虚荣势利、崇尚金钱的一面。皮普性格的多面性和复杂性既是受到了特殊的家庭环境以及独特的个人经历的影响，也受到了他人和社会大环境的影响。家境的贫穷、姐姐的虐待，导致了皮普的软弱与压抑，另一方面也激发了皮普的上进心； 他人的仁爱和关怀，推动了皮普正直善良品质的延续；而社会环境里拜金风气的盛行， 则使皮普变得虚荣势利。皮普形象的塑造既揭露了黑暗的社会现实，探索了复杂的人性， 又弘扬了狄更斯“高尚、仁爱”的道德观，传达了作家提出的“不同的环境可以造就不同的人”以及“回归自然”的创作思想。

ABSTRACT

Great Expectations is a novel written by Charles Dickens in his later years. The novel tells the story of the hero Pip who rescued a fugitive in his childhood. After he made his fortune abroad, the fugitive sent Pip to London to receive higher education in return for his kindness. At last, the fugitive was arrested, his inheritance was confiscated, and Pip's "great future" was shattered. Pip's character is simple and kind, generous and honest, but not willing to ordinary, eager to learn and make progress; to treat the desire of love, Pip persistent pursuit; but Pip also has a snobbish, money-obsessed side to him. The diversity and complexity of Pip's personality are influenced not only by the special family environment and Pip's personal experience, but also by other people and social environment. The poverty of family conditions and the abuse of his sister led to Pip's weakness and depression, and also promoted his ambition; the kindness and care of others promoted the continuation of Pip's integrity and goodness; and the prevalence of gold worship in the social environment made Pip develop the bad character of vanity and snobbery. The creation of Pip's image not only exposes the dark social reality and explores the complex human nature, but also promotes Dickens' moral concept of "nobleness and benevolence" and conveys the author's creative ideas of "different environments can create different people" and "returning to nature".
